Certain older video file formats may not compress or export properly in Office on a Windows RT PC. Instead, use modern media formats such as H.264 and Advanced Audio Coding (AAC), which PowerPoint 2013 RT supports. PowerPoint 2010 supports the AAC format if the correct codec (such as ffDShow) is installed. Want to see what version of Office you're using?

Windows Media files (.wmv, .wma) aren't supported on PowerPoint for macOS. There are a number of third- party tools for Mac that can convert your .wmv or .wma file to one of the supported formats listed above.

Alternatively, if you have a Microsoft 365 subscription that includes Microsoft Stream, you can upload the .wmv or .wma file to Stream and insert it into your presentation from there. Learn more about Microsoft Stream.

Once you have a converted media file in a suitable format with the correct encoding, go back to the PowerPoint slide where you want to insert your video or audio file. On the Insert tab of the ribbon, click Audio or Video. (For complete details about inserting the media file, see Insert and play a video file from your computer or Add audio to your slides.)

Because video files can be large, programs called codecs were developed to make them easier to store and share. Codecs encode data to compress it for storing and sharing. Then they decode that data to decompress it for viewing and editing. The most common codec for video compression is H.264 or AVC.

Audio file formats or file extensions are the containers or wrappers for these codecs. As with lossy audio file formats, most video formats lose data in compression. Which format you choose depends on the balance you want to strike between quality and ease of use.

MOV (QuickTime Movie) stores high-quality video, audio, and effects, but these files tend to be quite large. Developed for QuickTime Player by Apple, MOV files use MPEG-4 encoding to play in QuickTime for Windows. MOV is supported by Facebook and YouTube, and it works well for TV viewing.

AVI (Audio Video Interleave) works with nearly every web browser on Windows, Mac, and Linux machines. Developed by Microsoft, AVI offers the highest quality but also large file sizes. It is supported by YouTube and works well for TV viewing.

While similar in name, these two file types are very different. MP3 stands for MPEG-1 Audio Layer III, and it is an audio-only container. This format compresses audio files for an easy and versatile way to store sound bites and music. An MP4 (MPEG-4 Part 14), on the other hand, is a multimedia container that can store audio, video, still images, subtitles, and text.

With Premiere Pro, you can easily convert MP3 audio files into MP4 video content. Simply upload them to your editing timeline to make them a part of your latest video project. Converting videos into different file types is also easy, such as going from an MOV to an MP4. Upload almost any type of video file to your project timeline, and then export your project in your desired format.

There are two steps to getting file downloaded in Python so the process is os independant. I would recommend using inbuilt requests library. We use it to make requests to server and fetch content. Then we write the data into a file in next step.

I'm working on an application where users upload a video and play it back the browser using jwplayer, jplayer, flowplayer, etc. Some videos play immediately, while others wait until the entire video file has been downloaded.

Use ffmpeg with the -movflags +faststart option. This will relocate the moov atom to the beginning of the file, thus allowing playback to begin by the client without the need to completely download the file first.

I had this problem with some MP4 videos as well. I was converting uploaded videos to mp4 (h.264 + aac) and they wouldn't buffer. The reason is that this format contains some important metadata required for the playback at the end of the file, hence the entire file has to be loaded before the playback can start. The solution was to use a tiny program called qt-faststart ( ) on the result of the conversion. This program relocates this metadata to the beginning of the file making progressive-download playback possible.

Most Mac devices now come with iMovie, the free movie editing tool from Apple. With iMovie, you can shorten your video and only send a part of it, obviously decreasing the size of the file. Additionally, iMovie contains a feature that prepares your file for e-mail which helps compress it for sending:

Dropbox, Google Drive, One Drive, and others are cloud services that enable you to share big video files easily. They all work more or less the same way, by first registering an account then downloading the desktop client, or accessing the service online. Then you can upload the video file and share the generated link by e-mail with your colleague or friend.

Consider playing MP4 files in a different media player that supports the format. The best choice could be a free and open-source VLC Media Player. It is known to play almost any video file type without any issue. The media player is compatible with Windows 11.

Other than VLC, you can try Movies & TV app, DivX Player, KMPlayer, 5K Player, RealPlayer, QuickTime, etc. These media players support 5K 1080p HD/ UHD MP4 video files and are compatible with Windows 11 and Windows 10.
