Syaikh 'Abdullah BaSaudan was born in Khuraibeh, wadi Dau`an, Hadhramaut in 1178H (1764CE) and died in 1266H (1850CE). He was a scholar of various Islamic sciences, such as Quran, Hadith, Fiqh, Tasawwuf, etc. He was also a poet who composed many beautiful poems in Arabic and Hadhrami dialect.


Hadrah Basaudan is not the original work of Syaikh 'Abdullah BaSaudan. It is said that the first version was composed by Habib 'Umar bin 'Abdur Rahman al-Baar, a student of Imam al-Haddad RA, the famous saint and scholar from Hadhramaut. Syaikh 'Abdullah BaSaudan then revised and expanded it with his own poems and additions. The final version was completed by Habib 'Abdur Rahman al-Masyhur, the author of "Bughyatul Mustarsyidin", a famous book on Tasawwuf.
